Mrs. Amanda Murillo is a dedicated educator and leader with over 12 years of experience in the field of education. She is committed to cultivating an inclusive, innovative, and student-centered learning environment where every student can thrive.

Her educational career began in the elementary classroom, where she taught 2nd grade and English as a Second Language (K-3). She later transitioned into the role of Media Coordinator for middle grades (5-8) and has served in various leadership capacities.

Most recently, Mrs. Murillo served for two years as an Assistant Principal, where she focused on enhancing instructional practices, supporting school-wide systems, and strengthening relationships with students, families, and staff. Her leadership is grounded in collaboration, consistency, and a strong belief in the power of a positive school culture.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-6) from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University, and completed the School Administration Add-On Licensure program at UNCP. She also holds a K-12 English as a Second Language teaching license.

As Principal of Clarkton School of Discovery, Mrs. Murillo is proud to lead a school that values the arts, creativity, and leadership. CSD’s A+ School designation allows students to engage in diverse, hands-on learning experiences with arts integration. She believes that empowering students through meaningful learning opportunities builds the foundation for lifelong success.

“I am passionate about student growth, community connection, and look forward to continuing to foster a school community that ignites excellence,” said Murillo. “As the new principal of Clarkton School of Discovery, my mission is to lead with heart, inspire with purpose, and create an environment where every student believes they can succeed.”

Mrs. Murillo lives in Tar Heel with her husband, Andy, and their two sons, Javi and Kobe. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, staying active, and supporting her family's restaurant business.

Assistant Principal

Dr. Sandra Holland Evans is the Assistant Principal at Clarkton School of Discovery, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous roles as a teacher, district health coordinator, K-8 district curriculum supervisor, and assistant principal. She earned her doctorate in education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and holds both undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Dr. Evans is a firm believer in maintaining high expectations for all students, which she considers essential for achieving success in schools and districts. Her dedication to educational excellence and student achievement drives her work in support of both educators and learners in her community.

Hailing from a family of educators, Dr. Evans ' husband is a retired principal, her son is currently in graduate school at Appalachian State University for school psychology, and her daughter is a teaching fellow at East Carolina University. For Dr. Evans, education is not just a career; it is a calling.
